Adventures to have and places to see

El Salvador 2007

Sometimes you just have to seize the moment, and in March 2007 we had an opportunity to visit El Salvador with some friends. This was Tamara and I’s first vacation together outside of Canada. We booked a week at Royal Decameron Salinitas.

Countryside

El Salvador is a beautiful country, with coffee plantations and a mountaneous geography.

Archaeology

We went on a Myan tour that was amazing. We stepped foot on two pyramids and visited a museum that told us a lot about the Mayan culture. It must have been quite a civilization.

Royal Decameron Salinitas

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Decameron Salinitas. The food was good, and the swimming pools were large. The beach had black sand, which got quite hot in the afternoon sun. Entertainment was lots of fun, particularly the fire show. Mayan statues showing the history and culture of El Salvador were abundant. Every night one tree would be completely covered in Snowy Egrets looking for a place to roost for the night. It was amusing to watch them negotiate who go to roost where. We would certainly consider going back if it was safe to do so. There was definitely an armed presence at the resort. On the weekends that got stepped up even more when Salvadorian people are permitted to stay at the resort as well.
