Adventures to have and places to see

Punta Cana 2021

Aug 15, 2021

It is strange, I don’t feel quite right without a vacation plan somewhere in our future. With our Jibacoa trip cancelled, that left us feeling a bit empty. We decided to wait it out and see what came up for last-minute deals. Those can be great, can also set you up for failure. There is no guarantee that something decent will show up when you are ready to travel. Some of the agencies offering these deals are iffy.

We are also fully vacainated, so travelling is possible with a low risk of getting seriously sick.

Sunwing is one of our favourite airlines to travel with. We haven’t had a bad experience with them yet. They are offering an $800 price drop guarantee. Since Cuba is a mess these days, we decided to book a trip to the Dominican Republic instead. We will depart in late October for a couple of weeks. We decided to give Catalonia Royal Bávaro a try.

We made sure to get the Cancellation Insurance for an extra $100. For all of you considering vacations, we strongly recommend you get Cancellation Insurance no matter what airline you travel with. Apparently you can cancel withing 3 hours of the flight and get a full credit (not a $ refund). I’m not sure how well that would actually work, but being able to cancell and get a full refund (25 days out) or credits is better than losing your money entirely.

We joined Facebook group We Are Friends and Family of Catalonia Royal Bavaro Group Page to see how the resort is doing. So far so good. The review groups (Google/TripAdvisor) are all over the place with COVID will happening. It’s difficult to determine the status of anything when reviews range from 1 star to 5 star, at the same resort , and the same week. It doesn;t seem to matter what resort you review. Catalonia is adult-only and high ranking, so we will trust in that. This time we got the Privilige option (Diamond Club) as it wasn’t ridiculously expensive.
